What each of the 49 courses is built on

The structure never changes from one course to the next (short lessons, quick checks, a closing 20-question exam, then a certificate and a reflective account). What differs is the U.S. law, rule or code at its core, shown in the last column; each course page lists the full set. Forty-eight courses run 3 hours at US$89, and Professional Standards for Pharmacists runs 2 hours at US$69. Eight courses are written for a single profession, and Controlled Substances is offered to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and PAs; every other course is open to all licensees.

Choosing for everyday practice and renewal learning

If nothing is wrong and you want to sharpen your judgment, start with the course closest to your daily risk. Prescribers and hospital clinicians often pick consent, records or error disclosure; anyone who handles patient data benefits from HIPAA privacy. Clinicians who prescribe or give medicines often add prescribing, controlled substances or medication safety, and hospital teams look at handoffs, sepsis and incident reporting. See the ethics hours guide for how renewal topics vary.

Choosing after a board complaint or employer concern

Begin with the complaints course to understand the process, then take the course that matches the allegation, such as boundaries or integrity. Remediation, insight and reflection help you show what you have learned, and the courses on preventing recurrence and rebuilding trust after disciplinary action cover the period once an order is in place. If an order requires a course, check whether it must be approved in advance before you enroll; our board discipline guide explains why.

Suggestions by profession

  • Physicians: Medical Ethics for Physicians and Professional Standards for Physicians, then consent, error disclosure and integrity, given False Claims Act and Stark exposure.
  • Nurses: Ethics for Nurses and Professional Standards for Nurses, boundaries built around the NCSBN continuum, and documentation.
  • Pharmacists: Pharmacy Ethics for Pharmacists (APhA's eight principles), the 2-hour Professional Standards for Pharmacists, medication safety and HIPAA privacy.
  • Dentists and hygienists: Dental Ethics for Dentists and Hygienists under the ADA's five principles, Professional Standards for Dental Professionals, infection control and consent.
  • PAs: prescribing, scope of practice, boundaries and professionalism under the AAPA Guidelines.
  • Therapists and counselors: confidentiality, including psychotherapy notes, boundaries, social media and clinical supervision.

Choosing a course: questions

Can I buy more than one course at the same time?

Yes. Add as many courses as you need to your cart and check out once. Each 3-hour course is US$89 and the 2-hour pharmacist standards course is US$69. Every course has its own 20-question assessment and certificate and stays separate in your account, so you can study them in any order that suits your schedule.

Does every course carry the same disclaimer about credit?

Yes. No course in this catalog is accredited for CE or CME or approved by a state board, and none awards contact hours on its own. If you want to use one toward a requirement, ask your board or employer first whether they will accept education.

Are the 49 courses different in content, or the same template?

They share a format but not content. Each course is written around a different body of U.S. law or professional guidance, with its own cases, knowledge checks and assessment questions. The tables on this page show the main standard behind each one, grouped the same way as the catalog filters.

I work in two states. Which rules do the courses follow?

The courses teach the federal rules and professional codes that apply everywhere, then show how named states differ. You hold a separate license in each state where you practice unless a compact applies, so check the practice act and board rules for each license you hold.

Is there a course for a concern that is not listed here?

Most board concerns fall under one or more of these 49 courses, from integrity, boundaries and records to prescribing, medication errors or privacy. If yours does not fit, contact us with a short description and we will tell you honestly whether any course is relevant before you buy.

Do I have to finish a course in one sitting?

No. Courses are self-paced, so you can read a section, complete its knowledge check and return later. Take the 20-question final assessment once you have worked through all the lessons, then complete the structured reflective account while the learning is still fresh in your mind.

Why does one course cost less than the others?

Professional Standards for Pharmacists is a shorter course, designed as 2 hours of study, so it is priced at US$69. The other 48 courses are designed as 3 hours and cost US$89. Apart from length they work the same way: you study at your own pace, answer the checks in each section, need 16 of 20 on the final questions, and finish with a certificate and a structured reflective account.

How these courses are built

Official sources only

Every legal and regulatory point comes from primary sources: state practice acts and board rules, federal law and national professional codes of ethics. Anything we cannot confirm is left out.

Original, edition by edition

Lessons, scenarios and assessment questions are written by us for each edition separately, then checked for accuracy, teaching quality and fair assessment before publication.

Reviewed when rules change

When a code, standard or law changes, the affected courses are reviewed and updated. Reported errors in legal or regulatory facts are corrected first.
