FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions health professionals ask most before enrolling: approval and accreditation, use after a complaint or order, pass marks, certificates, prices, refunds and privacy.

Before you read the answers

Some answers differ between New Zealand and the United States, because the regulators and laws are different. Where that happens, both positions are given. If your question is about your own registration, license or case, the final word always belongs to your regulator or board, and for a live matter you should take advice from a lawyer, union, professional association or indemnity insurer.

All questions

Is any regulator or accrediting body behind these courses?

No. We are an independent provider. In New Zealand, responsible authorities generally do not approve individual third-party CPD courses, so no course of ours is "Council-approved". In the United States, no state board has approved them and they carry no CE or CME accreditation. We say this plainly so you can decide, with your regulator or adviser, whether a course suits your purpose.

Can I count a course towards NZ recertification?

Possibly. Most New Zealand recertification and continuing competence programmes recognise relevant learning that you plan in your professional development plan and reflect on afterwards. Whether a particular course counts, and for how much, depends on your responsible authority and, for doctors in a vocational scope, your college or accredited provider. Keep your certificate and reflective account as evidence.

Do the US courses carry CE or CME credit for renewal?

Do not assume so. Our courses are not accredited CE or CME, and most state boards specify which providers or accrediting bodies count towards renewal hours. Some licensees use our courses as additional self-directed learning alongside accredited hours. Check your state board's continuing education rules before relying on a course for renewal.

Will a course satisfy a PCC, Tribunal or Council requirement in New Zealand?

Only if the body that set the requirement accepts it. Where a responsible authority or the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal has ordered a competence programme, recertification programme or education, our course does not replace it unless that body agrees. Get the authority's, your supervisor's or your lawyer's answer in writing before you enrol.

Will a course satisfy a US board order or consent order?

Only if your order allows it. Board orders often name a specific course or require a board-approved provider, a minimum number of hours, or prior approval of the course. Check the precise terms of the order, then ask the board or your attorney whether a course fits, before purchasing. If our course does not meet the terms, we would rather you knew before enrolling.

Is it worth doing a course while a complaint is still open?

Many practitioners find structured learning helps them understand the standards involved and reflect constructively, and regulators often look for insight and remediation. But timing and content matter in a live case. Get advice from your indemnity insurer, union or lawyer first, and do not write details of the case in your reflective account without their guidance.

How many CPD hours is each course, and what is the pass mark?

Each course is estimated at 2 or 3 CPD hours, including lessons, knowledge checks, reflection and the final assessment; the hours are shown on each course page and on your certificate. The final assessment has 20 questions and you need 80%, which is 16 correct answers, to pass. If you fall short, you can review the course and retake it.

What wording appears on the completion certificate?

The certificate shows your name, which course and country edition you took, its estimated CPD hours and your pass date, and confirms you completed it and reached the 80% pass mark. It does not state that the course is accredited or approved, and it is not evidence of clinical competence.

What is the reflective account and how should I use it?

It is a guided template filled in at the end of each course, covering the reason you took it, the main learning, the changes you plan and the evidence that will show them. You can download it for your portfolio, appraisal or professional development plan. Keep it de-identified, with no patient names or identifying details.

How much do courses cost?

Prices are set in the currency of each country edition. In New Zealand, 3-hour courses are NZ$139 and the 2-hour course is NZ$109. In the United States, courses are US$89. The current price is always shown on the course page and at checkout, and you pay by card.

Which country edition should I choose?

Choose the country where you are registered or licensed and need the learning to apply. Content is written around that country's laws, regulators and processes, so the wrong edition will refer to rules that do not apply to you. If you practise in both New Zealand and the United States, buy the relevant course in each edition.

Can I change to a different country after buying?

You can switch the country you browse at any time, and one account holds courses from every edition. A course you have already bought stays in its original edition. If you bought the wrong edition by mistake and have not progressed far, contact us promptly; our refund policy explains when a refund is available.

Can I get my money back if the course is not what I needed?

Yes, within limits. A full refund is available if you ask within 14 days of buying, provided you have done under 20% of the course and no certificate has been issued. The full rules and how to ask are in our refund policy, and your rights under consumer law are not affected.

Who can see my assessment answers and reflections?

Your answers and reflective account are stored in your account and used to run the course and issue your certificate. We never share them with a regulator, board or employer without your consent, unless the law requires it. Our privacy policy explains what we collect, how long we keep it and how to ask for access or deletion.
